2-ish months progess and regression

I started this weight loss journey on March 1, 2013. I have had many ups and downs during that time. My weight has gone down little bit by little bit. During this process, I hadn’t seen much progress in the way of inches lost, until I took a progress picture.


I took my progress picture about two weeks ago but haven’t had any time to post on here. I was pretty proud of myself. I’m pretty bummed about still not being able to fit into smaller jeans. As I lose inches from my waist, the loose skin melts down my body and sticks to my hips. I keep hearing from people that have lost weight that the skin shrinks after a while but I’m still waiting for that to happen.

This have been a life changing two months and I’m still transforming both mentally and physically. Mentally changing is the hardest part by far. Living a quarter of a century with the fat girl mentality has warped my self-image to the point of almost permanent damage. Even looking at the progress in these pictures isn’t enough some days to stop me from skipping workouts or over-eating.

However, I’ve noticed that these slips are becoming less frequent. Hopefully, they will stop altogether. Only time and effort will tell. Good luck to everyone out there who’s on this journey as well.


Fun in the mud

Hello Everyone! After I ran the 5k this passed Sunday (see here), I feel accomplished and even more pumped to achieve my fitness goals. I decided on three events over the next ten-ish months that will test me in different ways and should be a lot of fun (which makes getting healthy fun).¬†Here’s a rundown of what my girly muscles will be training for:

The Dirty Dash

According to the website, this obstacle course/fun run will leave me covered in mud and feeling awesome, I sure hope so. The course for where I live will be around 4 miles long. This is on August 31st so I have some time to start training.


Like a boss.

Duke City Marathon (10k event)

This is truly your average, run of the mill 10k. Nothing really fancy or difficult about it (except the 6.4 mile part). I want to test my endurance with this one. Why stop at a 5k? This race will be timed so I can see how I’m doing speed-wise. This event will take place October 20th. After this race, I know I’ll feel awesome and ready to train for the final event…

Tough Mudder

This is the pinnacle of obstacle courses. This bastard of an event tests you mentally and physically. It makes you confront your fears utilizing a variety of obstacles specially designed to kick your ass. The length is anywhere from 10-12 miles. I’ve wanted to do this for a few years now and my husband has agreed to be on a team with me. This event is sometime in 2014 so it’s a while off; however, we’ve started training for it now.

My first 5k in the books

Well folks, after a lot of sweat, tears, and miles I have successfully completed my first 5k. It was an amazing feeling. I’ve never been able to complete a mile in my life before this point and to go another two miles after that without running out of breath has given me a feeling of accomplishment I didn’t think was possible. My wonderful sister in law signed up with me.

She has been my accontabili-buddy through this entire thing and I’m not sure if I could have done it without her. She’s been a real inspiration, I look forward to running with her in future races.

There were thousands of people there, it was very overwhelming. I’d like to think that the breathing exercises I had to do to keep from freaking out really helped with my running.


Breathe… That’s the key.

When I was getting ready to leave for the race, my father in law (who is a running aficionado) told me to start slow and finish strong, and finish strong I did. I could see the finish line in the distance and it was the most beautiful site I could have seen at that moment. I can only describe it as seeing someone you love very much after a long absence. My adrenaline levels went through the roof and I broke out into a full sprint. My sister and I crossed that finish line and I let out a triumphant cry of victory.

What was my time? Well let me tell you. We ran a little over a 5k (5.7km) and I got a time of 43 minutes and 23 seconds. BAM!

Despite the large crowds, it was a beautiful day to get out and really prove to myself that I have the ability to complete something that I set out to do. Now to get ready for a 10k in October. Duke City Marathon here I come!

Sorry for the absence

My apologies for not posting as of late. My curious little imp son decided to experiment with water, gravity, and my computer. My computer, sadly, didn’t survive. I have been doing my work on my kindle and it can be hinky when I try to post things.
I will update this thing as soon as I can get some moola set aside for a new computer. I hope everyone is making progress with their goals.
